With the unveiling today of the new Walt Disney World Park Pass Reservation System, many people flooded the Walt Disney site to try to snag their reservations at 7 am EST. Unfortunately, that overloaded the system but it seems to have recovered (for the most part). To make it easier for you when it is your time to make park reservations, we put together a brief tutorial on how to check availability and make those precious park reservations!
Remember, if you have a 2020 hotel reservation and park tickets, you can reserve your parks today, June 22. Starting on June 24, those who wish to book 2021 packages will be able to reserve their parks once you have put a deposit down on your trip. Annual Passholders without a hotel reservation may begin on June 26 and ticket only holders may begin on June 28. You will need to make your park reservations yourself as you need to agree to a COVID waiver from Disney.
Here is what you need before you get started:
- A Disney Account
- Hotel and Tickets Purchased (AP only will be available 6/26, all other ticket holders for 2020 and 2021, 6/28)
- Link ticket or AP to your Disney account. All Guests in your party must also have valid park admission linked to their profile.
Note: At this time, new 2020 ticket sales are temporarily paused, and sales will resume at a later date.
- Link your hotel reservation to your Disney account.
- Make sure your travel party is all in your friends and family.
- Check the availability calendar here to see what parks will be available on what days. You should also do this before booking your new 2021 packages!
- Grab a cup of coffee or tea! You may need a little while.
Now you are ready to make your Disney park reservations!
Step 1 – Open the Park Reservation System
You must do this from your desktop or laptop (do not try from the mobile app). Open the My Disney Experience site. Log in. On the drop-down My Disney Experience menu on the top right, choose “Park Pass System”. This will bring you to another page. Click on the “Make a Disney Park Pass Reservation” button.
Step 2 – Create Your Travel Party
When you start to make a reservation, you’ll create your party from your Family & Friends list. Just select the family and friends you want to include, then select “Continue”.
Don’t see someone in your travel party? Select “Add a Guest” to include them.
Note: Depending on your type of admission, you may need to make two different sets of park reservations. Please make sure your party consists of Annual Passholders or theme park ticket holders.
Everyone in your party must also have a hotel reservation (until 6/26). If this varies, you will need to make separate Disney Park Pass reservations.
Step 3 – Select Your Date and Park
Select a date from the calendar and then the parks appear below. Choose the park, click the box for the waiver and the click the button to select another day or be done. The earliest you can reserve a park pass is July 11 with the option of Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom. Then July 15th, Epcot and Hollywood Studios will be available. Park availability will be limited and may change. If you can’t get something at first, keep checking back. Remember, you are only allowed to reserve one park per day.
Step 4- Select a Time to Visit
As of right now, you do need to select the time, but the time appearing is the entire time the park is open for the day. You can arrive anytime in that window. This could change in the future.
Step 5- Review and Confirm
Check to make sure everything looks ok. Prior to confirming, you’ll need to agree to the Terms & Conditions, including Disney’s COVID-19 liability waiver. Then, click “Confirm” to complete your park reservation.
Once confirmed, your reservation will appear in “My Plans” under My Disney Experience.
Want to make another park reservation? Select “Make Another Reservation” to continue planning.
Note: If you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to make a park reservation for each date of your visit.
If you need to cancel a park pass reservation you can do so under “My Plans” and “Reservations”. You will be able to change your park passes as many times as you need to subject to availability.
Some tips to be aware of:
- If you are having a hard time getting past this screen
Or this one
Try logging out of My Disney Experience, opening a Chrome Incognito browser and opening the site that way. Some people have reported getting in quicker using the incognito browser.
If that still doesn’t work for you, you can try one of these hacks posted on Facebook:
- Open an incognito browser. Don’t log in.
- Go to Dining and make a dining reservation at a Disney Springs restaurant in July.
- Login and go to MDE at the top right of your screen.
- Follow steps 1-5 above.
- Make sure to cancel that dining reservation!
Go to the memory maker homepage. Act like you’re going to purchase, on the last page hit the back button. You’ll be logged in and able to make your park reservations by following the steps above.
